The Power of Music: Celebrating Our 2025-26 Scholarship Recipients
Through the Alison N. Roman Scholarship, young musicians are given the opportunity to continue their education and pursue their passion for choral music. Established in Alison’s honor, the scholarship reflects her love of music and the belief that music can create connection, community, and opportunity.
We are honored to celebrate the four students who received scholarship support in Spring 2026. Each has a unique musical journey, but all demonstrate the powerful role choral music can play in shaping a young person’s life.
Finding a Place to Belong
Marwah has been involved in choir since seventh grade and has continued singing through college as a member of the University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music. For her, choir has become much more than a musical activity—it has been a place of belonging, acceptance, and community.
Marwah describes choral music as an important part of her identity and a source of encouragement throughout her journey. Through scholarship support, she can continue her education and pursue her passion for music.
Finding Her Voice Through Music
Lilly discovered a profound connection to choral music after joining choir in high school. She went on to participate in Colorado All-State Choir and multiple district honor choirs, while also volunteering with their school’s choir activities.
Through choir, she discovered that music could change not only how she experienced music, but how they understood the world and connected with others. She credits her choral experiences with helping her develop empathy, learn about different cultures, and find her voice both as a singer and as an individual.
As she begins college, scholarship support will help her continue participating in choir while pursuing studies in English and Business.
A Growing Musical Journey
Judah is already familiar to the Kantorei community. After receiving the scholarship previously, he performed with Kantorei in 2024.
His love of choir began in high school and has continued into college. He describes choir as a source of connection and community—a “music family” where each person’s gifts are valued. For them, music is also a way of sharing their story and bringing light into their life.
Scholarship support is helping him continue his musical journey and participate in opportunities that allow him to grow as both a singer and a person.
Music as a Path to the Future
Sovereign has been singing in choir since his freshman year of high school and has embraced every opportunity to participate, including singing in multiple choirs throughout high school and college.
He describes choir as a place that gave him a sense of direction and a joyful community of like-minded people. His passion for choral music has also helped shape his future goals: he hopes to become a music teacher and share the power of music with others.
Scholarship support is helping make it possible for him to continue participating in choir throughout college while pursuing that dream.
Carrying Alison's Legacy Forward
These four students remind us of the many ways music can shape a life. It can provide belonging, inspire confidence, create community, open doors to new experiences, and help young people discover their own voices.
Through the Alison N. Roman Scholarship, Alison’s legacy continues to live on—not simply in memory, but in the music these students are making and the futures they are building.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who helps make these opportunities possible and proud to celebrate the next generation of choral musicians.
