Written in memory of Terry’s mother, who died alone from COVID-19 in August 2020, this setting of Psalm 23 is a deeply personal reflection on grief, faith, and love. In her final hours, Terry sang her favorite hymns and recited Psalm 23 to her over the phone, offering comfort when he could not be physically by her side. Inspired by the ancient words that have brought comfort to generations, the piece honors both his mother and the many lives lost during the pandemic. Nearly five years after her passing, this work finally receives its premiere—a tribute to his mother and to the enduring power of music to connect us through loss.
